This is a common symptom of evaporator fan failure or an iced-over air duct in single-evaporator Defy refrigerators. Since one fan is responsible for distributing cold air to both compartments, any disruption can leave the fridge too warm while the freezer stays cold. Power surges can also burn out the fan motor or affect the mechanical damper that regulates airflow. The issue often requires replacing the fan or manually defrosting the unit.

Defy refrigerators are known for their simplicity, but that sometimes means more mechanical noise. A frequent source of buzzing or rattling is the condenser fan motor or loose back panel components. If the fridge isn't level, the vibrations can amplify, especially during startup or shutoff cycles. Over time, worn fan bearings can also lead to whining or grinding sounds, indicating a need for replacement before further damage occurs.

In many models, the door switch wears out or sticks due to dust and humidity, especially in coastal or rural environments.
